Every year we welcome moose, caribou, bison, bear and dall sheep hunters. Our guests use McGrath as a transportation hub, and the Roadhouse as a base camp. Be sure to follow hunting regulations.

Hunting Management Units in Interior Alaska

Local guides at Epic Alaska in Takotna and Runkles in Nikolai offer the best hunting and trapping experiences in the area. That said most of the hunters rely on Willow Air and Litzen Guide Service outfitters for their experience of the area and their high capacity.

Gather your gear

Our guests are welcome to borrow outdoor gear on a first-come-first-served basis! Camping gear, canoes, paddles, cooking sets, waist boots… Contact us to check the list and reserve your gear.

Send your gear using UPS at:

We receive and store your boxes at no cost before and during your hunt. However as we don’t have mail/freight distribution in McGrath, we take a fee of $20 per item to pickup your gear when shipping with USPS, FedEx or a local freight carrier. For safety reasons we do not accept any item over 50 pounds.
Carry less and support local businesses! We can purchase food, fuel and other items for you in McGrath at no extra cost!

Take care of your meat

Hang your meat in the cold room of our D.I.Y. Meat House. Contact us for details on how to transport your meat to your home state and we will assist. Did you know? McGrath welcomes around 4% of out-of-state hunters to Alaska. If you donate some of your meat to locals, not every family needs to hunt for subsistence and the population of wild animals is preserved! The Roadhouse provides the infrastructure but is not responsible for your meat at any time of the process. Please be responsible to avoid both food waste and legal trouble!
